Beyond Surface?

Ausstellungskatalog für Esther Irina Pschibul

Projektbeschreibung

About the project

Within the exhibition »Beyond Surface?« at the Federal Textile and Industry Museum Augsburg the works of artist Esther Irina Pschibul contrapose the museum's own collection and engage in a pictorial dialogue.

The book continues this concept of intervention: neon yellow opposes graphical and sculptural pieces, the vivid color bridges the gap between typography, playful lines and images. This associative layer complements the documentary one and at the same time creates room for the reader's own thoughts. Depending on the light the neon color shifts its tone, just like the title-giving surfaces of the sculptures – the book seeks to mirror the changeable and volatile nature of Pschibuls oeuvre.

The rough, unsound surfaces of her pieces are adapted by the means of book design: a haptic body and cover, a stamped title as well as an open spine which allows a glimpse of what's inside.

Overall the book is composed to be more than just an art catalogue: It reflects Pschibul's artistic methods and interweaves her body of work, her interventions with thoughts and essays of the authors.
